March 21st – 3.21 – has come and gone once again.
The fun/wacky/crazy socks have been tucked back into drawers.
The celebratory spirit of a day of awareness has given way to a more subdued, everyday routine.
The need for more inclusive opportunities in schools and employment is still here.
The desire to have friends and be accepted just as he is still shines in his eyes.
The kindness and understanding and support that were displayed yesterday, on 3.21, are still necessary today and every single day of the year.
Please don’t put your acceptance back in the drawer with your silly socks until next year. The Down syndrome community needs allies year round to help make the changes that are so past due.
Inclusion matters, every day. We don’t need socks to remind us of that.
